Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
At Chelford CE Primary School, we believe that each pupil has individual and unique needs. We understand our duties in regards to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 and make the curriculum accessible to all pupils. We acknowledge that a significant proportion of pupils will have special educational needs and disability (SEND) at some time in their school career. Many of these pupils may require help throughout their time in school, while others may need a little extra support for a short period to help them overcome more temporary needs. If these pupils are to achieve their full potential, we must recognise this and plan accordingly. The school aims to provide all pupils with strategies for dealing with their needs in a supportive environment, and to give them meaningful access to the National Curriculum.
The new Cheshire East SEND toolkit was updated in September 2023 and is now embedded into our school practice. Every child has the right to Quality First Teaching. If children do not make the expected progress over a period of one or two terms, they are quickly identified and added to our 'First Concerns' list. The children will then receive appropriate additional support.
Sometimes, these interventions do not sufficiently impact on the children's learning and they may need further interventions and support. They will then be added to the school's SEND SUPPORT register. A SEN Support Plan (SSP) is put into place, and is discussed termly with the child's parents. We believe that the role of parents is paramount in planning and supporting at all stages of their child’s development, and we will always listen if you have any concerns over the progress of your child.
In our school, children with SEND still make good progress from their different starting points. Our school will always endeavour to provide the best provision possible.
If you do have concerns, then the first contact would be your child’s teacher.
