World Book Day 2023
Chelford CE Primary School was awash with colour and excitement as pupils and staff once again arrived to school dressed as their favourite book characters to celebrate World Book Day 2023! It was a joy to see so many different characters on show - representing children’s increasingly diverse and broad tastes in reading.
Amongst the collection of characters on display were some of our pupils’ usual favourites such as Hermione Granger and Harry Potter, Mr Strong, The Tiger Who Came for Tea, Matilda, Little Red Riding Hood and the Very Hungry Caterpillar. It was also refreshing to see some new characters on show this year, including Isabella from the Girl of Ink and Stars (Kiran Millwood-Hargreave), and Bilbo Baggins (The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien).
As usual, our staff joined in the fun, and pupils were thrilled to be taught by a range of new ‘additions’ to the staff team including Gangsta Granny, Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey, Fantastic Mr Fox, Violet Beauregarde and Veruca Salt, the BFG and Sophie!
As part of this year’s celebration, pupils were also invited to share a ‘book in a jar’. The children were tasked with the challenge of representing a book of their choice by gathering and displaying clues in a jar. As always, pupils’ creativity impressed - some included fully integrated electrical circuits to power fairy lights! Books to have been represented by pupils’ entries include: The Boy at the Back of the Class (a particular favourite with our Class 3 pupils), Alice in Wonderland, The Magic Faraway Tree, Treasure Island, Matilda, The Little Mermaid, The Tiger Who Came for Tea, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the BFG.
We are looking forward to sharing pupils’ work with the wider community as pupils’ jars and book reviews are soon to be exhibited at the Alderley Edge Library. Why not pop by and view our display - you could even open an account and open the door to a new world of fascinating tales and stories, completely free of charge courtesy of your local library service!
