Request for pupil absence
Parents do not have an automatic entitlement to take their child out of school for a holiday during term time. In exceptional circumstances schools may authorise, in advance, requests for absence. The request for leave must come from a parent/carer with whom the child normally resides. Chelford CE Primary School uses a specific request form for absences which complies with current regulations (download below).
Absence requests will be considered in line with The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013. Holiday prices, and the fact that the parents have booked a holiday before checking with the school, are not exceptional circumstances.
Statutory Assessments
Leave of absence will not be granted to children in Year 2 and Year 6 during the national tests each year in May, and Year 1 assessments in June.
Parents also need to be aware that pupils, if absent, may miss some important and exciting school events.
