Sports and PE
At Chelford CE Primary School, we recognise the benefits of developing pupils’ love of sport and exercise as key factor in leading a healthy lifestyle - both physically and mentally.
Our curriculum provision is enhanced by our collaboration with Sports Coaching North West, who lead two sessions with all pupils each week. The expertise that the coaches bring to sessions also provides our teaching staff with ideas and drills which can be used in the future.
As part of our commitment to developing pupils’ swimming skills, all pupils in Class 2 and Class 3 enjoy six hours of swimming tuition in the autumn term, attending Macclesfield Leisure Centre for weekly classes.
In collaboration with colleagues from the Holmes Chapel cluster of schools, our pupils welcome the many opportunities they are given to represent the School in a range of different sporting festivals, fixtures and competitions. Since September, the School has participated in the following events:
- Tag rugby
- New age kurling
- Cross country
- Swimming gala
Due to our smaller than average cohorts, all pupils are afforded a number of opportunities to compete against peers from other schools, developing respect, resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship in a friendly, yet competitive environment.
Alongside our curriculum work, pupils also benefit from an extensive extra-curricular programme which includes weekly morning yoga sessions for pupils in Years 1 - 4 and a range of seasonal after-school offerings delivered by coaches from Macclesfield Town FC (multi-sports - all ages) and Sports Coaching North West (dance, dodgeball, football, hockey, cricket, rounders and netball).
